Hotel Penaga

Last stayed in November 2021

Type of room stayed in: Clarke Terrace House

Value – 3.5/5
Cleanliness – 3/5
Ambiance – 3/5
Staff services – 4/5

Location – It is in Georgetown and very centralised. Also within walking distance to Penang Road and Chowrasta Market

Lobby – They have a very nice looking lobby and the feel is very comforting. It is an old restored historical building but beautifully done up.

Check in / Check out process – Quick and efficient

Staff – Friendly and nice

The room – I wish I can say the same about the room as I have with the Lobby.

The suite has a living room, a kitchen area, an outdoor jacuzzi area (which we do not know how to operate) at the ground floor and the second level with two rooms (one twin room and 1 double bedroom). These suites are refurbished from the old shop lot and certainly has a lot of history to it. A lot of the design and finishing also reflect that including the cabinet, TV rack, sofa and right down to the switches. Certainly a lot of thought has been given to the design concept on how to fuse the old with the new and make it works. It reminds me of my late grandmother house Alor Setar, Kedah.

Unfortunately, after MCO, you can see that it didn’t weather through the economy downturn that the country has suffered. The suite did look run down with a lot of the items either spoilt, broken or not in good working conditions e.g. loose toilet seat, water taps that came off, broken shower head, unpolished tiles floor, cabinet shelves which the wood is coming off etc.

Generally, it is clean but because of the not well maintain conditions, it doesn’t give the full assurance of its hygiene level.

Hotel facilities – The room does comes with an outdoor jacuzzi and we tried to make it work but couldn’t. It also looks as though that it has not been used for a while.

Hotel parking – There is no attached parking to it. You have to park at lots available at the surrounding streets. And you have to pay for the parking from Monday to Saturday starting from 8am to 6pm. You can do that easily via the Penang Smart Parking app.
